Not all cards' magnetic stripes to be deactivated - straitstimes.com

Some banks to exempt frequent travellers and those residing abroad.

Several banks will not deactivate the magnetic stripes on local credit and debit cards that have been used overseas at least once in the past year.

But it is understood that the new rule to reduce fraud, which consumers have criticised for its inconvenience, will still hit most users here.

"Anyone can buy an electronic reader to extract the information from the stripe, then clone cards for use," said Mr Samson Yeow, a senior lecturer at Singapore Polytechnic's school of digital media and infocomm technology.

National Infocomm Security Competition 2013 (Updates)

26 Jul 2013. During the recent Information Security Seminar 2013, the Guest-Of-Honour Dr Yaacob was speaking at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre.


This event was jointly organised by the Infocomm Development Authority, Cyber Security Awareness Alliance and the Association of Information Security Professionals. The aim of the event was to provide thought leadership on infocomm security and to promote greater understanding of the key infocomm security issues and challenges faced by public and private sector organisations.

At the end of his speech, Dr Yacob also gave out the plaque to the winning team of the National Infocomm Security Competition from Singapore Polytechnic.

National Cyber Security Masterplan 2018

SINGAPORE - The rising sophistication of cyberattacks that can even disrupt the operations of key infocomm infrastructure - such as those in the banking, transport, energy and public sectors - is a potential threat to Singapore.

This is made worse by a global shortage of highly-skilled infocomm-security professionals who can defend against such attacks.

So, Singapore is embarking on a five-year National Cyber Security Masterplan to boost the number of such security experts here and bolster its defences against cyber threats.
