DISM New Curriculum Structure. DISM is rolling out its new curriculum structure in the new academic year (2023). These changes are in response to changes in the industry and the larger polytechnic education landscape that is seeing an emphasis on industry linkages, offering students common entry programmes, specialisation tracks and multiple learning pathways.

The revamped DISM course will continue to offer a broader and more flexible curriculum with specialisation modules to cater to the demands of the industry as well as the aspirations and interests of students. The course will remain a broad-based cyber security diploma, through active learning and in the form of gamification, with provision of digital playground to hone their skills while learning in a safe environment, thus providing training and giving students the essential cyber security knowledge and skills applicable to many sectors and industries.

In Year-One first semester, students will be provided with a broad introduction to the Infocomm landscape and help students to gain insights into the occupations and job roles, career pathways and employment opportunities in the various Infocomm sectors. Students learn the fundamental IT modules and common foundational modules that gives comprehensive exposure to various areas of IT.

The Common Core Curriculum (CCC) modules prepare students for a disruptive world that is ever-changing. The modules comprise of critical human and emerging digital skills that will allow students to be versatile and thrive in the future, no matter which industry or job you go into. The Education and Career Guidance (ECG) module provide a structured and comprehensive system to help students make better and informed education and career choices in school and beyond graduation.

With the new proposed changes, DISM students will now be empowered to choose their preferred specialisation track in their second year. These specialisation tracks are listed below:

• Cyber and OPerational Technology (COPT)
• Cyber Defence Security (CDS)
• Security Incident Management (SIM)

In the third year, students can select their choice of pathway. These pathways are listed below:

• Year-Long Internship pathway;
• University pathway; and
• Industry Project pathway (incorporating Industry Now Curriculum, INC).

In addition, students will get a choice to do 3 or 5 electives from a basket of electives on offer. The DISM Curriculum includes three (3) compulsory poly-wide elective modules. Students may choose from a wide range of modules offered by schools (click this link to see the offered modules). Some electives may lead to certification upon completion of the requisite electives and meeting the passing requirements. Students may opt for the 5 electives to achieve a minor. These curriculum changes allow the students to take charge of their learning according to their interests, personal aspirations and changing trends in the industry or economy.
