Lee Kuan Yew award recipient who once studied in top junior college saw a different future in polytechnic

Article featured 28-year-old SP Diploma in Infocomm Security Management (DISM) graduate, Yang Anlin. Anlin arrived from China at the age of 11. He started his local education at the Primary Three level. Thinking that he had to work harder than his classmates to catch up, Anlin persevered and eventually became the top GCE O-Level student at his secondary school.

With his stellar results, Anlin decided to enrol in a top junior college. However, although he was doing well academically, he could not relate to his studies and found each school day stressful and painful. As a result, he shocked everyone by dropping out just four months before his GCE A-Level exam. After serving his National Service, he chanced upon SP’s Diploma in Infocomm Security Management (DISM) course
Intrigued by the modules and bright job prospects, Anlin realised that this was what he wanted to do. He worked hard and even won the Singtel Best Intern award when he interned at NCS Pte Ltd. For his excellent performance, he will be receiving the Lee Kuan Yew award and the IMDA Gold Medal. After graduating, Anlin will be working as an IT Security Consultant and hopes to play a big role in Singapore’s cyber defense. (Lianhe Zaobao, p5)
