DMIT Infocomm Industry Day

29 March 2010. Industry guests from over 30 organizations converged at The Hall in Singapore Polytechnic to witness a buffet of final-year projects from the graduating students of the Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) and the Diploma in Infocomm Security Management (DISM).

The 16 final-year projects ranged from game development to information systems to security projects. Each project displayed innovative ways to tackle everyday problems. Julian Ho, the director of ThinkSECURE was really impressed with the quality of the students. He even commented that “one or two groups actually surprised me by using stuff in a commercial setting”, referring to the tools deployed by students to tackle the challenges in their final-year projects.

It was a win-win situation for the students as they managed to mingle with industry guests and gather valuable feedback about ways to improve their technical and non-technical skills. Truman Ang, a student from the Diploma in Information Technology, summed it up well when he said “It’s a good opportunity to communicate with people from the industry to get feedback and understand what they are looking for”.

The students also put their best foot forward to impress the industry guests. “It’s a good chance for the industry to know what Singapore Polytechnic students are capable of and to look for prospective employees” said Chan Jing Yong from the Diploma of Infocomm Security Management.
